V — Episode One

 

The aliens look like us. How...original.

 

I’m not really sure what to say about V.  I wanted to like it, I really did, but it was just kind of okay. Episode one starts with what appears to be an earthquake but ends up being an alien invasion. The aliens look like us and speak all of our languages. However, it soon becomes clear that the aliens aren’t what they seem (cue creepy music).

I wonder if I would like this show better if it didn’t already have the same urgent, dramatic tone as FlashForward (a show I am more invested in at this mid-point in the season). And because the aliens look like humans on the surface, they have the whole “are you a real human or an alien” angle we already came to love on Battlestar Galactica (note: I’m not sure whether V did this first or not since it is a remake of an old miniseries from the ’80s).

I’ll give it another episode before issuing a verdict.
